Pro boards are cool, as they are (usually) accompanied by artwork that has had some thought put into it.

I wouldn't be caught dead in a brands plain logo shirt though.

Baker pro models where its the baker font with the guys name on it are pretty whack. I get that thats what they do when they turn anyone pro, but why would I want a board that just says Jacopo or Kader or some other shit in the baker font

I have a friend who told me he refuses to buy pro boards because he doesn’t want to ride a board with another mans    name/accomplishments.

I usually scratch the graphics off the boards I buy with my lunch money doing lipslides on the parking blocks at the local Safeway so I'm not too worried about it.

Whoa! You can do lipslides?!

Does he do the same thing with packaged food and restaurants?

Yes, supporting someone who provides you with free entertainment and art is lame af.
not only that it's just plain disrespectful.

There are a lot of companies out there without “pros” but who cares... If the board is good I’ll skate it even if there’s a gaping asshole on it. I don’t care.

I skate blanks. But its not like ive never had a pros name on my wood before so im not tryna be divisive here just saying fr. At this point in my life it would be wierd and kind of embarrassing if a pro saw it because im not gonna fan out or even talk to them prob. Apart from any social reasons i just really like the look of a beautiful natural wood grain i find it simple and elegant. The fact that theyre cheaper does help a tad and no its not like im gonna save up for a rolls royce lol but 20 bucks is still a few good meals if i cook one of them. And why not

My fav pro bloard i ever had was a marc johnson chocolate way back in high school. The concave was perfect and i could pretty much tre as many times as i wanted to in a row with it. In my adult years i cant even remember the last name that was on my wood

Pro boards are a fine tradition that has stood the test of time. Pro trucks, bearings, hardware etc is some silly shit.

Why? It's the same shit these days.

Way back, you bought a Pro board for that pros shape, because you dig it, the pro, shape or company.

These days, boards are not so dissimilar and less so within brands, so how is buying a 'Pro' real deck in your favorite dims any different than a truck, bearing, grip or a wheel? You are still supporting that pro...

There are so few pro custom shapes (that they actually ride) to make that purchase special, and some companies offer amazing shapes that are never or rarely ever pro shapes (quasi comes to mind).

Like most commercial products, tons of skaters don't skate their own boards/shapes which is misleading and wack. But, I personally hate team boards more than misleading pro-boards. I would like to see brands sell every board they drop with a pros name attached. I believe Crail had this policy for years. Because at the end of the day, for most brands, team boards directly go back in to the pockets of the owners of the brands, whereas we mostly care about these brands due to the skaters who ride for them.

I don’t really see anything wrong with it. Only thing is more expensive than shop decks.

What if the pro has a cool name like Ford Prefect or Wonko the Sane or Chris Miller?
