I can't believe there's still an argument going on about TJ and "classy".
we wouldn't be talking about any of this if people weren't using his durags as justification for him not being classy, which is a massive generalization with racist undertones about black people. yall come out saying durags are for classless people and expect everyone to nod and move along... smh
the idea of "classy" or "nice" clothes in the west only comes from whatever rich white ppl have said is "good" (either created or appropriated) and imposing it on society for decades if not centuries to the point that no one asks why anymore; sucks for those who dont want this conversation to include race.
SLAP gets mad tight when skate culture is appropriated, but will try to shut the conversation down when its pointed out that looking down on black and brown culture has been ingrained in ppls heads, as is made clear by comments like the durag one.
im not even trying to shun people as racist. like i said before, id hopefully like to get ppl to think bout where they got the ideas coming out of their mouths and if they feel okay furthering old thoughts that were fed to us as truths about the world. to ask "why?" more.
honestly if obviating these things day to day gives you peace, whatever, we've
all done it... but if and when they're brought up to you dont fight em and pretend like race power dynamics haven't had a hand in shaping society and by extension our own convictions... its a bad look.
