Hmm, I'm curious about that survey the parks department did. The majority of people who use the plaza in Portsmouth Square are the older Chinatown Residents, I'd say 40 and up. If they went to local schools and asked the youth about the destruction of the bridge, they might get different responses.
The majority of the times I've skated the banks there were always older people hanging out, laying on the benches, playing cards, and just doing their thing. Young kids were occasionally come through on bikes, or just run through. The only time I would it was guaranteed to be empty was when the gates to access it were locked.
Perhaps we should push to preserve the banks if they are going to be destroyed. Maybe relocate them to another place in the city.
Also, I find it funny skaters got portrayed as people who just like to "scrape the ledges", which seems like a subtle way to portray skaters as people who don't appreciate/respect the architecture. But if you want to take a wrecking ball to the bridge, all good!
