cinder block ledge
« on: June 14, 2024, 04:32:37 PM »
I'm building a basic ledge.. cinder blocks, construction adhesive, angle iron. Don't want to fuck with mixing with concrete or anything. Just wondering if there is a 1/4" material I can put on top to flush the coping? I know it will be be fine without... but a flush top would still be nice. Someone posted a long time ago about using decking material but everything I've found in home depot is 1" thick and my angle is 1/4". Should I just say fuck it? Or is there something I can stick ontop that will fit and slide nicely?
Let me preface this post with the fact that I am slightly inebriated, very uneducated and I havent read any papers or done any research at all, or read your post really.

Maybe a bit thin sheet of plywood cut to the width of the ledge and liquid nail it down. Depending on the width the bit of plywood would add manual pad functionality to the ledge.

Yeah might just have to settle for plywood. I was hoping I could find a thin sheet of some kinda slidey recycled plastic material like that shit they make benches out of. Thanks man.

Go to your local steel supplier and buy U channel instead of angle or #3 plate(1/4”) if you really want to use angle. You can use ply or masonite, but it’ll rot or you’ll punch trough after a while with only 1/4 wood.

Or just make as me a ledge with concrete. Way cheaper and will last. Just takes effort.

Way back we topped out plywood ledge with a thin sheet of metal (forgot what kind), helped with the slide and mostly stopped chipping on the top and sides. Never left it out in the rain but that thing lasted for years.
