Sorry for your loss. I lost a family member to brain cancer once, terrible disease

thank you, ed. he had open heart surgery as a toddler, had a stroke at 17, had testicular cancer right before the brain cancer. he suffered a lot throughout his life, but he was always so joyful and full of life.

I am sorry for your loss, too.

car needs more work, I already can't afford the work that's been done so far. Can barely afford the finance payments on the fucking thing.

Seriously burned out on my job.

I wanna quit and be a bum but I have a cat to take care of 🐱

Really though I have ideas and goals to become self employed but who knows how realistic they really are. I get so demotivated by the end of the work week I don't want to do a damn thing.

Self motivating to create a liveable income being my own boss is the dream, although a scary proposition.

Shtonk, I think the answer to the first part of your post is that if someone speaks on something they are not stoked on in here, you are more than welcome to respond to them in a kind, mature manner that is encouraging. Whether you have experience with it or not, sometimes just acknowledging the hardships another fellow skater is experiencing, and sympathizing with them or showing empathy, would, by nature, be appreciated, I'm sure.

It sounds like he went through a lot, but was able to share good times with you, @fineslime .

Thanks for your condolences too. It was a long time ago for me (so it gets better, trust me).

But I remember when it was deemed definitely terminal -- she was bedridden in hospice at that point and I had just had knee surgery from skating so we were both laid up in the living room together (lol). Sounds like a nightmare but it was actually a fond memory for me.

Anyways, she was very religious as well and, while I'm not, I get some solace knowing that God as she knew Him needed someone like her to teach kids in Heaven. So it's probably the same for your brother; Someone up there needed a good person.

Keep your head up and dm me if you want.

I don't know what you work in so this might be useless advice but joining and getting active in a union can make a lot of difference. I also know a bunch of tradesmen who have all joined syndicates of some or other kind (a collectively run carpenter's business, an anarchist bakery, a communal farm and a car garage) - they must be the happiest working people I know.

I'm feeling the same right now except I have 2 kids instead of a cat...

Also, Father's Day was some miserable bullshit. It's always nice to feel utterly unappreciated.

A fuckin local cop just flexed on me. And affirmed my confidence in saying I don't answer questions. No you can not ride my board.

So I'm walking up the hill. He felt the need to come back and try to frame me up.

I stopped intentionally Infront on a crowd of diners. I shouted SOMEONE FILM THIS! I TOLD HIM HE COULD NOT RIDE MY BOARD AND NOW THIS jerk comes with the I gotta blurry photo bullshit.

Nope I'm not doing crimes and I'm not wearing Nikes.

Some of y'all read all that before the edit.

Fuck those dudes.

i don't use facebook anymore - it's been a few years, but had to go on there to use a community noticeboard the other day and learnt that a friend and fellow skater had committed suicide about 3 months ago. i was invited to the funeral and all but just didn't see it and none of my friends have mentioned it at all. big shock. i've had a lot of friends take their own lives over the last few years - it's extremely confronting.

i also have covid out of nowhere and spent last night kind of hallucinating/shivering. good times.

Fuck man, that sucks :(

There was a dude around here that died a few months ago, and I only sent messages to him every once in a while on IG. Never had the chance to chill with or skate with him, but he was a really good dude from all the love he got.

I don’t know if it was suicide, but it was still really unexpected.

Hope you’re doing okay.

I truly appreciate the love from all that have given it, sending it back to you all!

I know I'm not the only one to have lost many friends to this so I'm sorry to all of you that deal with these losses too.

I've had a few times in my life where I myself was deeply suicidal, like to the planning stage. All I can say is that I'm so glad that it's a pin I never pulled. Life sucks, life is beautiful, life can feel impossible, life can be a pleasure. I have no answers to anything but if anyone's ever in need of help or to talk you're very welcome to message me. I love you and respect you and your life is worth living.

Hey Unc here are the materials you probably need to look over:
https://www.salemma.gov/housing
https://www.mass.gov/info-details/tenant
rights#:~:text=Rent%20Increases%3A%20There%20is%20no,with%20the%20new%20monthly%20rent).

Short answer is they probably can raise the rent. However tenants must all agree and sign a new lease and so collectively you could decide to say no but I am not sure what their next step would or could be legally.

I'm genuinely considering running for City Council. West LA has terrible transit despite having trains stops and 3 different bus services. The current City Council this year approved a post-Covid rent control percentage hike of a one-time 5% increase this year and 4.275% every year after. Prior to Covid, rent control was at a 3% increase annually. When asked why the increase was approved, one City Council member said that neither the landlords nor the tenants seemed happy and that it was compromise. It emphatically was not. Tenants far outnumber landlords and so that is just shitty representation. Meanwhile, all up and down Venice Blvd, store fronts are empty and they are building a second megacorporate building to match the Warner Discovery building that's sorta empty. They ganked the Kiss and Ride for the Expo line stop to build that shit too.

Air Conditioner shit the bed in the middle of heat wave here. Bummed for my dog but have fans for him everywhere to lay in front of.

and the sheer pain in the ass it is to get someone to replace it at a reasonable price. have had 4 quotes so far ranging from 6 grand to 11 grand.

and the lower end pricing has not called back to schedule.
